The festival calendar was announced today by its Festival Director, Fionnghuala Ní Néill and President of Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT), Dr Annie Doona. Amongst the guests that attended the event were some of Ireland’s best animators, film-makers and members of the Blackrock community.
Today’s reception called for entries for this third annual event and announced the deadline of entries as 19th July 2013. The winning entries will be showcased during Blackrock Animation Film Festival 2013 and prizes will be awarded at an awards ceremony (The BAFFAs) in early October.
Commenting on today’s announcement of the competition details and rules, Festival Director, Fionnghuala Ní Néill said, “In 2011 we only received 45 entries and last year we received 146 entries from the UK, Poland, China, Canada and the USA. Last year our guest of honour was the renowned award winning Merlin Crossingham from Aardman Studios and his friends, Wallace and Gromit.”
She went onto say, “Last year’s festival featured a series of excellent master classes including modelling by Merlin; a flip and roll workshop by Fabian Erlinghäuser; a sand animation workshop by Eimhin McNamara; and character drawing by Don Conroy. This year’s programme of events will feature a workshop in Maya animation in response to the growing industry demand for training. We are deeply indebted to all of our sponsors, supporters and volunteers who made the event such a success in 2012.”
